High-powered and enduring prayers consumed the whole personalities of the many saints God found to stand in the gap for the nation, the entire African continent and beyond in enthusiastic intercession.
It was a 6-hour prayer feast interspersed with sumptuous worship, marathon sessions of prayers, powerful Holy Ghost operations as and inspiring Word ministrations. Aside the praying times, almost every other session of the program started or ended with speaking with new tongues, thunderous shouts and all manner of noises. This was especially characteristic of the praises and worship time which ended with people prophesying into the lives of each other in hands-held positions. In fact all activities took place in an atmosphere of prayer, and a warrior was made out of all gathered therein. The Ghana National Anthem which was sung shortly afterwards was devoid of the usual courtesies accorded it; instead its words were uttered prayerfully also ending with moments of prophesies for the nation by all. The KNUST Vice Chairman of the Students’ Chaplaincy Council (SCC) took over to give the welcome address. In His speech, he said that God did not find just one person for this intercession, but enough men with unity of faith and oneness of heart for the worthy course. Making a quick roll call of the institutions present, he named all the institutions who were Methodist University, University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies, Regional Maritime University, University College of Education Winneba, including both Kumasi and Mampong Campuses, University of Mines, Tarkwa, Valley View University. Students also came from Kumasi Polytechnic, Cape Coast Polytechnic, Tamale Polytechnic, Institute for Professional Studies, Christian Service, Rural Health Training School, Kintampo, School of Medical Sciences and Nursing Training School, Komfo Anokye. Heavy incitement came when the host institution, KNUST was called who were then joined by many others in loud shouts. Following was the first of the intercessory prayer doses for the day, led by the University of Cape Coast Prayer Secretary which lasted for about 2 hours. Starting with the bigger picture, he led the congregation in prayers for Africa. Prayers were made concerning specific areas such the economy, leadership and deliverance from satanic influence. The myriad displays of prayer prowess characteristic of such gathering weren’t absent and infectious as it was, it spurred others on who had grown weary. The speaker for the program Rev. Ebenezer Markwei, and his entourage: Rev Victor Kusi Boateng of Power Chapel International, Prophet Gilbert and a team of pastors from Accra and beyond came in during the end of the first prayer session, so he took over from there. His introduction attracted so much noise in the auditorium that he called for order, saying that it is in such an atmosphere that the Holy Spirit works because in the beginning when the earth was without form and void, the Spirit was restless until God started putting things in order. The utmost silence which then ensued was very congenial for transition into the word ministration session. Prior to his message, the speaker recounted life in his good old school days in KNUST in the 80s; his prayer life and the initiation of intense revival in his time coupled with numerous hindrances. Then he quickly went on to describe 3 ways of receiving revelation (Matt. 16:17): by flesh, blood and by the Spirit or the Father. He said though God is the eternal source of all divine revelations, he sometimes chooses to give revelations to His people through our fellow men (by flesh) or through experiences or painful moments such as blood oozing out from the body (by blood). Citing the example of Samuel and Eli, he said during the time when God wanted to speak with Samuel, he had no clue what He was up to. It had to take Eli (flesh) to give him the keys to understand the scenario. But he said God was not only going to use him to minister but He Himself would minister in diverse ways to His people as well. Rev. Markwei spoke extensively on the theme for the meeting “The Government of the Nations upon the shoulders of Christ” (Check story on sermon at NIA). He explained that Christ who is the head of the Church, had completed His works on earth; and there is every responsibility on believers to continue the good works of God because Christ has transferred His authourity to believers. The message was followed by a prayer and empowerment session for the intercessors themselves. Afterwards, Rev. Markwei led the assembly to bountifully and cheerfully sow into the NIA secretariat to help them cater for the cost for the running of the programme and even into the next edition of NIA. NIA 2009 came to an end with a handing over of the battle axe, the symbol of NIA from the host KNUST, to UCC, the 2010 host, amidst jubilations and very loud protracted shouts. This 7th edition of the National Intercessors Assembly was undoubtedly a cocktail of spiritual goodies set to propel participants in carrying the government, the management and general affairs of the nation by living a dominating life always. “And he saw that there was no man and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his hand brought salvation unto him and his righteousness; it sustained him” |
